What's on your dresser?
John over at Publog has asked what's in your dresser? Unlike John I do not have a beautiful old dresser that has been in my family for generations, in fact I don't have a dresser full stop. My house is affectionately known as a shoe box and you'd be lucky to find room at the dinner table if you came visiting. John's dresser is full of antique silver, old photographs and plates with the willow tree pattern. My cupboards are full of cheap china and glasses from Ikea (that way I'm not upset when something gets broken). However I do have one plate that I love hanging on my wall. When I was younger my granny had four plates on her wall, three of which I thought were old fashioned 'fuddy duddy' and this one. I always loved this one and wished that granny would take it down so I could eat my dinner from it. No such luck but when granny moved in with mum she asked me would I like any of her furniture. I asked for the plate, granny offered me all four. I replied that I only wanted the one to which granny said but it's not worth anything the other three are collectibles. I wasn't looking for an antique, I just wanted the plate I spent hours looking at as a child. This plate now hangs on my wall and evokes sweet memories of time spent with my granny.

I've chosen this one as my family post because it was written back in the days when only my family read me and describes a typical family day out, ie, Dillon doesn't come because he's scouting or socialising, me forgetting something and us all enjoying a day together.
This post on friendship I wrote as a guest blogger on Frannie's blog. I was very nervous writing it as I feel I can print any old rubbish here but I wanted something good for Frannie.
Me? Well this post sums me up really. Tennis, family and friends. What you see is what you get.
On to my love, well this could be my love for my children, tennis, friends or food...or Joules. Researching this I've found that I haven't posted much about him, mostly things in passing. That's because when I started blogging he said he didn't want me blogging about him. Although when I posted his first birthday post he posed for his picture. Now he often asks 'what nice things are you saying about me'? This post pretty much sums him up. He's easy going, needs very little to keep going, when he has a problem he deals with it promptly and with little fuss and he brings lots of laughter and some unpleasant smells into our house.
I've chosen this post as my other post. I often seem to write advice posts which basically mean that I've done something stupid and I'm trying to prevent anyone else from being a dipstick too. This was maybe one of my least bright ideas but hey it gave me something to blog about right?

Time for Reflection

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
Go on holiday with Joule family.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I never make new year's resolutions, they are hard to keep and I always try to live a good life.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
A friend of mine had her third boy 11 and 14 years after her other sons, and what a cute babe he is too.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
One of my closest friends lost her father suddenly whilst on holiday in France.
5. What countries did you visit?
England (of course) and France.
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A decent summer, I really suffered this Autumn from the lack of sun and warmth last summer. I need a good dose of sunshine to get me through the cold, wet and windy winter.
7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May, Joules finished studying for his degree. It was five years hard slog for all of us as he completed it after work and at weekends. The icing on the cake came when he received his results: A Distinction.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Continuing to have a good, happy family life with lots of laughter.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I tend not to think of things as failing as I always try to put a positive slant on everything. I'm definitely a glass half full person.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I did, the egg sized lump that grew on my knee-nearly gone now.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I didn't buy it but I got a new bike (complete with wicker basket) for my birthday and I love it.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
At times all of ours!

At times all of ours!

Food, children's activities and the mortgage.

Seeing my family especially Sam as I rarely get to see her.

I was 38 years young and I went out to dinner with my family and played tennis with my friends.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Feeling the sun shine on my skin in the summer.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Diverse, tracksuit for sport, jeans for walking/cleaning etc and skirts and dresses for everything else.
32. What kept you sane?
Who says I'm sane?
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
It's a close thing between Johnny and Orlando.
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Education. How come Mollie and Ben's affluent school get given loads of money (in a very short time) to add an extension when Dillon's poorer school has been falling down for years and the department of education is taking it's time in rebuilding the school despite giving it the go ahead last year? Of course it's all down to politics, Mollie and Ben's school got the money during election week and the minister got re-elected.
35. Who did you miss?
My family.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
I've known her for a few years but only really got to know her in the last few months. Her name is Amy, last year she was social secretary in the tennis club and threw the most amazing parties. This year she is taking on the Ladies Captaincy and I'm taking on the role of Development Officer so I'm looking forward to working (and partying) with her.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
When I am ill not to expect the worse (not sure I've fully learnt it yet)!

Rich Bitch
Karmyn tagged me with the rich bitch rich and famous meme and as I'll never be rich and famous I can dream up the most ludicrous things I'd want to do if I were.
Buy a big house with more than one bathroom near the tennis club. That way Mollie and Ben would be able to walk to the club, saving me loads of time and more importantly I'd be able to walk home after parties...no more waiting an hour for a taxi! With more than one bathroom in our house Ben would no longer have to pee in the garden when someone (usually his dad) is in the shower oblivious to his banging and pleading.
Go skiing...every year.
Have an entourage of people to look after my every whim...cleaners, housekeepers, chefs, masseurs, tennis coaches, chauffeurs...but they wouldn't get in my way and only appear when needed.
Throw a big party for my family and friends in the big chateaux we saw in France.
Travel loads and maybe meet some of my blogging pals...how cool would that be?
See my family more often.
Give time and money to those less fortunate then myself (I think I want to loose the bitch label)!

More about me!
The first thing I used to do after checking my emails was blog but not anymore. I'm totally addicted to Willowtrees trivia quiz and now Blue Momma is hosting one as well which is great because if I fail at one I have a second chance at the other. I must practise speed reading though because some of the players are so fast!

My Fireplace Revealed.
Thanks to John I won a prize for my sign so when he asked to see my mantelpiece I could only oblige. Before I go any further I must warn you that my fireplace is disgusting. I hate it. But it is way down the list of things that need doing.
So here it is in all it's glory. Gross, gross, gross. A horrible brick fireplace. Dillon took the photos for me and I see that he did not even straighten the candles! We have a gas fire thanks to my mum who paid for us to have the heating converted to gas after a terrible winter when I was pregnant with Mollie and the oil fired boiler kept packing up. I used to try and heat the house using the real fire and the back boiler. It was hard work and the house was not that warm so we used lots of hot water bottles instead. The painting above the fireplace I have blogged about before, my mother-in-law painted it of Mollie and myself.
These are all my nick knacks on top of the mantelpiece. None are antique or family heirlooms. Starting from the left:
A silver candlestick, (not real silver) I choose it because it went with the room.
Orange vase, given to me by friends I cooked dinner for with red fake poppy, I love poppies.
Small picture frame, Dillon bought me a few years ago but I haven't found small enough pictures to put in it (I can't print my digital photos as we only have a black and white printer).
A pig picture/jigsaw, Mollie found this recently and somehow it found its way up there.

The crystal candlesticks were a prize for runner up in singles and the crystal bowl (with fairy lights in it) was a runner up prize in doubles for a tennis tournament. The small painted candle cup in the foreground was painted by Dillon about six years ago (Mollie's is tucked away behind another candle). They made them as gifts one Christmas. The big black candlestick was another tennis prize. In the distance is Joules lava lamp and Ben's toy.

And the winner is...and an award.
Thank you all for entering my competition and yes there was a winner. Mum thought it was far too hard and no one would guess but I knew my readers and knew that one of you would realise that the clue was in an earlier post. Drum roll please...and the winner is...Frannie. Clever Frannie guessed that Dillon insisted on bringing 'hair product for his new do' and the correct answer was hairspray, a small can of hairspray was apparently more important than tent poles, they were somehow left behind (not by Dillon) and the lads slept under the stars one night in a forest and one night on a beach. Luckily for them it didn't rain.
Of course I need to award prizes for the funniest answer-enidd, 'enidd thinks dillon wanted to pack a standard lamp (with a nice beige shade with tassles), a 1974 copy of women's own magazine, and a thong (black leather, studded)'; the most inventive answer-Wendy, ''...But the real story is he smuggled all those tortoise eggs away from Grandma and is taking them back to the beach where they can be hatched and liberated!" and two awards for the answer I like best Julie and Beckie because they chose items (a pillow for the bike seat and toilet roll) I would insist fit into my rucksack if I was going cycling and camping. Well done girls, I'm going to make the prizes so they may take a while to reach you but if you send me your addresses (enidd, Julie and Beckie) at some point your prize will make it's way out to you!
Last week Swampwitch awarded me this award which made me feel really chuffed. As a child I had no creative skills, absolutely zero and was very jealous of my sister. Sam could draw, paint, sing, sew and cook and as for me? I failed my O'Level in art, I have not one single note in my head (aged six a teacher told me to mouth the words because I was spoiling the singing in school), sew (I tried bags I could manage but not clothes) and cook, well I'm sure I told you about the burnt pan of potatoes. The past few years I seem to have found some things I can do and would like to thank Swampy for recognising this.
Now I get to award five other bloggers with this award.
Steffi, is the most amazing seamstress. She makes the most beautiful clothes and Mollie has been lucky enough to receive some. Steffi also has the a lovely garden full of beautiful flowers and she blogs in two languages.
Nikki, makes beautiful jewellery and writes a really funny blog, she never fails to make me laugh.
Emma, is big into scrap booking (I'd never heard of it before) and makes all sorts of lovely things. Emma kindly sent me some of her handmade cards which were beautiful and I never want to buy a card again!
Hellojed, gave up her job to write a book, some days she struggles and some days she gets her creative juices flowing. It's exciting following her as she creates her novel.
Deborah, makes yummy food that I can cook for my family. She comes up with delicious menus everyday and she has small children. I often find myself making the same few things so admire her diversity and drool over her dishes.

Tying up some loose ends.
Thursday morning sees us heading off to Dublin airport on our way to France. Once there a swimming pool, tennis court and hot sunny weather awaits us and blogging will be far from my mind so I thought I had better complete some memes I had been tagged with.
Holler at Tinned Tomatoes who posts the most delicious recipes, tagged me to reveal seven random foodie facts, so here goes:
1) I didn't eat meat for eight years. It was bacon that got me back onto meat.
2) I love liver, onions and bacon but never cook it because the rest of my family don't.
3) I didn't try garlic until I was 18 and now it's a firm favourite. How could I have gone without for so many years.
4) As a baby Ben ate everything, now he could possibly win an award for world's fussiest eater. He eats practically the same thing every day, luckily for me it includes lots of fruit and raw vegetables but I would love him to eat the same as the rest of us.
5) In a restaurant I would nearly always choose a fish dish. I love fresh fish but rarely cook it because the rest of my family don't.
6) I wish I had enough money to shop in the farmers markets and eat organically but my weekly budget will not stretch that far. I do feel bad that I may be feeding my children polluted fruit and vegetables but I do my best.
7) I would love to eat out more. We only eat out a few times a year due to limited budget. This is a luxury I look forward to when the children have left home.

1) Last Wednesday Joules completed his degree in Electronic Engineering. He has been working on this part time (whilst holding down a full time job) for five years. They have been a long five years.
2) Dillon was born two weeks early and I only found out I was pregnant at 12 weeks. Mollie I knew about from conception to birth and she was born two weeks late. My pregnancy with Mollie felt very, very, very, very long.
3) Mollie loves soccer and supports Manchester United. The rest of us have no interest in the game.
4) Ben, despite trying to prove otherwise with his grown up, heavily influenced by his older brother ways, loves cuddly toys. He has as many as Mollie. He can't go into the Teddy Bear Factory without buying a toy (if he has enough money).
5) When Joules and I first met he said he'd never again live in Ireland, I said I'd eventually settle in the UK somewhere. Thirteen years later I'm still here in Ireland!
6) Dillon hates school and would love to leave so he can start making his millions.
7) If I had stayed in the UK I would be a teacher. Unfortunately you need to speak Irish to teach primary school children here. I'm still wondering what I'll be when I grow up.

For the first time ever I have been tagged by the source of a meme. Fatman was feeling a little bored and came up with these questions. His challenge:

Rising to the challenges.
The week of the meme's. I have discovered that if challenged I'm not the sort of person who refuses to take the bait, however hard I try. Robin threw out the most horrible, soul destroying, difficult to complete challenging challenge. The task? To take a photograph and post it of me first thing in the morning. Yesterday I tried, honestly I really did try but it was most definitely not a pretty sight. So this morning I opened my eyes, grabbed the camera and click, here I am. Take up this challenge if you feel brave enough or look drop dead gorgeous first thing.
The next meme challenge was set by catwoman, this one was to post seven random things you don't know about me. If you want a laugh I suggest you go and read enidd, if you want XXX rated stuff check out Emma but if mundane takes your fancy then stick with me.
1) I gave up tennis for three years from the age of nine to twelve years. I had worked hard for three years and finally reached the top squad when my coach turned into the biggest arsehole alive. He out me out against an older girl who was number one in the county, told me I was no longer allowed to use two hands on my backhand and criticised everything I did. I knew I would lose. I didn't mind loosing. I was thrilled to be in that group. I came home with my self confidence in tatters and announced that I was giving up tennis. My parents (who both play tennis, I grew up around tennis courts) took one look at my face and agreed. I'm very glad I took tennis back up three years later. I was then coached by the arsehole's son who was as good a coach as his father was bad. When I moved to Ireland I found life quite hard but when I joined a tennis club the following year it really helped me settle here.
2) I love singing but do not have one single note in my head. When I was six a teacher at school told me to mouth the words as my voice was so tuneless. I was mortified and spent the next 10 years mouthing instead of singing. It's so cruel how one remark or action from an adult can destroy our confidence. In sixth form I became good friends with a girl who was an equally bad singer but didn't care so we spent a few years bellowing out songs with out a care in the world.
3) Mum, when I was 13 and Dad had to collect me from school because I had run into someone and fallen, cracking my head open therefore needing stitches in my head, I hadn't just fallen. We were having piggyback fights at school (which had been banned the previous day) and I ended up on the losing team underneath three strapping teenagers.
4) I'm sure I've told you this before. When I was younger I couldn't cook. I burnt a pan boiling potatoes and put a plastic plate in an oven. I use to tell mum that I would live on cold baked beans out of a tin and cheese sandwiches when I went to university. I'm very glad I started cooking and love eating fresh, homemade food with my family.
5) When we were in Busch Gardens and it started to rain (we were in three groups) I arranged to meet Joules, Ben, Sam and Dillon at the outdoor shop and ran off to get Mum and Mollie. As we were running to the shop we noticed a ride with no queue on it so hopped on for one last go. We didn't realise quite how long our ride would be and quite how wet the others would get waiting for us. The ride was great fun and well worth the dirty looks we got!
6) I still have sports bras that are 11 years old. Sports bras are the most ugly item ever made but a necessity if you play sports. I hate paying out good money for something so ugly and practical. I have also discovered that cheap sports bras are not worth anything as the support they offer is non existent.
7) I've started a new hobby.

On the couch
So I've agreed to be interviewed by Catwoman and Frannie, the first five questions were put to me by Catwoman:
1. What most prized possession would you be willing to give up if your sacrifice would bring world peace?
To be honest I don't have many physical prized possessions because I'm not really a materialistic person. The one prized possession I do have is my wedding and engagement rings, they have been in my family for at least four generations and I feel very honoured to have been given them (thanks mum). I love the way they look and feel, I also love that they have been worn by my mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Much as I love them I would be prepared to give them up for world peace.
Charlotte Church, we'd have some fun nights out drinking vodka and partying till dawn. I have watched her grow up in the eyes of the media and have grown to admire the way she handles life. She refuses to behave in a certain way, ie: lose weight, not get drunk, be super skinny and basically conform to that celebrity lifestyle. Now in her twenties she is settled in her native Wales, is madly in love, has a baby on the way and hosts a hilarious TV show.
How it changed me for the better, I am now more patient, less stubborn and able to compromise. I was also overwhelmed by how much I could love another being after my children were born.
I used to tell my sister that when she was asleep I flew out the window and lived a life in the clouds. I was up there with three friends and we lived in a castle which had everything us children required and more. However much Sam argued with me I was adamant I flew away to the clouds each night.
My chosen name would be Emma Walker, because after some research those are fairly common names in New Zealand which is where I would live. I chose New Zealand because (from what I have seen on TV) it is a beautiful country that offers all I could want: sun, sea, snow, good standard of living, nice food, easygoing lifestyle, laid back charm. I guess I would continue to blog along with having barbeque's, swimming in my pool, sipping vodka in the evening sunshine...

I actually don't know that I would like the responsibility of having a superpower. If I could have the power to obtain world peace and an end to poverty that would be great.
The feeling of the sun on my skin. I know it's not good for me and I will grow into a wrinkly old hag, in my defence we don't get much sun here and I do wear sun cream.
No I wouldn't. All in all I've enjoyed my life so far, there are a few little things I regret doing or saying but they've helped shape me into the person I am today and I quite like me.

My gut reaction is to say a shower but then I don't think that a shower is frivolous. I do have a shower but it only dribbles out a little bit of water and will not sit in it's cradle when switched on therefore you have to hold it over you at all times, putting it down to wash your hair etc. So the first really frivolous thing I would buy would be a new car, followed by a family holiday for all my family in New Zealand.

Lazy summer days
Yesterday was the hottest day so far this year here in Dublin with temperatures reaching 22 oC. Joules, Mollie, Ben and myself headed off to the beach where it was lovely to see all the children in their swimming costumes enjoying the sand and the sea. I took the camera but alas the battery was dead so no pictures today! We then enjoyed our first BBQ of the year, Dillon invited three friends to dinner and we enjoyed chicken marinated in oil, lemon juice, garlic and basil, burgers and sausages with a pasta and bacon salad and crispy potato skins, followed by a sponge cake with cream and strawberries. I love BBQ's and as there's some salad left over we may just have another tonight!

A pat on my back!
I'm a bit chuffed as I've just realised that this is my 200th post since little old me started blogging back in October 2006. Prior to this I had only read Sam and Dillon's blogs then Mum started blogging last September. When Mollie jumped on the blogging bandwagon I decided to follow suit as I didn't want to miss out. So here I am 200 posts and four and a half months later, Joules thinks I'm addicted and Mollie had been known to accuse me of liking the computer more than my daughter (attention seeking), in my defence I try to do most of my blogging over breakfast with short visits to my blogging friends in the afternoon and evenings if the computer and myself are free at the same time. I have lately concluded that I read enough blogs and that it is ok to read blogs and not comment on every single post I read. I have met (virtually) some really nice people and made friends even though I have never met any of you and probably never will. I also really appreciate all the comments and emails I have received.
This leads me on to revealing the pleasure I got when I read the following on Frannie's blog:
beccy of peppermint tea- Beccy is usually my first read of the day. She is an English lass living in Ireland and I imagine it is heavenly to listen to her accent. (not the pretend one in my head when I read her blog, though) Beccy has me think about food a lot, which happens to be one of my favorite subjects. I always want to be Suzy Homemaker, and Beccy seems really good at that type of stuff. Definitely one of my favorite bloggers. She also has me thinking about how much things cost in Dublin. oh, and cool trivia that she doesn't talk about much--- Bono is her neighbour. oooh- like how I did that with the accent??? did I even spell it the right way? (why do you people put up with me)

This meme has been making the rounds for a while and I know a lot of people who have been tagged so I am going to choose blogs that I don't think have been tagged.
1) Barbara of Winos and Foodies is one of my favourite food bloggers and has tempted me to make many of her recipes, my favourite being the blueberry breakfast bars. I met Barbara through Mum who Barbara found through Sam so she has been witness to our family way of expressing love through snide comments. It was this post of Barbara's that stopped me in my tracks, I knew Barbara had been ill before but wasn't expecting to read this and it was the first time I really worried about a person I had never met before.
2) Sabrina is an American currently living in Cork writing about her Adventures in pregnancy, home abroad, dogs and knitting; two Texans tackle life in Cork, Ireland. I stumbled upon Sabrina during a Fun Monday and have avidly reading her posts as she settles into Irish life. One post about the death of a former student of Sabrina's touched a nerve for me, as my children are fast growing up I have to give them freedom yet I know I will worry about them.
3) Over at Dreaming What Ifs... you'll find Karmyn. I never know what to expect with Karmyn, one day it could be a picture of her aged by about 1,000 years (sorry Karmyn but it was rather gross), the next she'll be tackling a serious issue such as child abduction and in between she'll hunt out golden syrup to make flapjacks.
4) Little Miss Moi is an Australian living in foreign climes and writes about life with her Mr Moi at Nezalehnosti. Kyiv. Ukraine. Miss Moi's posts are both amusing and informative and she has introduced me to the trials and tribulations of living in the Ukraine.
5) For my last nomination I am going to choose Emma who writes about A day in the life of a mum to 4, sometimes I hold it together, sometimes...not so much. What Emma writes is raw, straight from the heart stuff. She'll tell you how she is feeling, how her children are, what is annoying or upsetting her or her opinions on other blogs. Emma is refreshing to read and one blogging friend (of many) I would love to meet.

You Are What You Eat
Barbara, one of my favourite food bloggers, tagged me last week with this meme.
If you were stuck on an island and could only eat one cuisine (e.g., French, Italian, etc.) for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?
It would have to be Italian because pasta, pizza, tomatoes, bread, olive oil and ice cream sounds like a delicious balanced diet to me!
What is the most unusual food you've eaten?
I tried alligator tail in Florida and Sam's tongue in New York, (not literally her tongue but some of the tongue she had ordered in a restaurant, I think it was ox but I'm sure she'll correct me). Mum tricked us into eating rabbit as children which was not pleasant.
What is the most unusual food you've eaten and liked?
Freshly caught octopus on a Greek island, which reminds me I promised you the story of my moped accident.
What foods will you avoid eating (either because of a dietary choice or allergies or just plain don't like)?
Sam accuses me of eating with my eyes not my mouth, again not literally but I am loathe to try heart, pigs trotters and snout and kidneys. Liver served with onions and gravy I love.
Do you cook (and by that, I mean prepare a meal that you'd serve to friends)?
If you've been reading me a while you know I cook and I eat.
If yes, what is your favorite dish to prepare to impress someone?
I don't have a favourite. If I have plenty of time I love trying out new recipes.
When you go to a restaurant, what's your ordering strategy/preference?
I don't know that I have a strategy, I tend to order whatever takes my fancy. I often end up ordering fish as I love fish unlike my family so I rarely cook it at home.
Have you ever returned a dish or wine to the kitchen at a restaurant? Why?
I've never returned a dish or wine to the kitchen. I don't eat out often, (three children and the fact that Dublin is so expensive means eating out is a real treat). I really appreciate going out to dinner and have never had a dish I consider bad enough to return although I have ordered dishes to try and haven't liked them but that is down to personal taste.
How many cookbooks do you own?
I've just counted 56. Far too many and I don't use over half of them but I can't bear to throw them away. I also have four folders full of recipes I've torn from magazines, printed from the Internet or copied from friends books.
What is one food that you wouldn't want to live without?
One food? That is so hard. Thinking. Thinking. Thinking. Can I not choose two or three? Cheese (or garlic or bread).

A Meme about Me
So after the easy meme the wonderful Sally tagged me with a slightly (I mean much) harder one. The challenge is to show my personality by linking back to three old posts of mine.
'What' you say, 'easy'.
It would indeed be easy dear reader if I had written posts describing how clever, sexy and funny I am. No matter how many times I scroll through my old posts there is not one that shows me as either clever, funny or sexy so I guess I must try harder to find other personality traits.
Whilst trawling through the posts I discovered a few things, firstly I think my writing has vastly improved, now I'm not saying it's any good but it is much better than it was. Secondly, my life seems to revolve totally around my children with an odd social trip. This is not so, although I do concede that yes my children take up a large chunk of my life and I am very grateful that I can stay at home and spend lots of time with them. I have a very active life away from the house, sorry lads, I'm not about to regale you with tales of my other life as a pole dancer but I enjoy hobbies such as tennis, hockey and walking.
I play a lot of tennis, I pretty much grew up at the tennis club as my parents played a lot of tennis. I was coached by my Dad to play backhand so I could play doubles with my Mum, (she only played on the forehand side). I like to play tennis about four times a week both competitive and friendly. The reason I rarely mention it is because it would make boring reading, ie, 'I won today'; 'I won again today' oh look 'I won at tennis today' and maybe the odd 'I lost today'! I'm only thinking of you my dear reader and I think you'd run away from me in droves. The same goes for hockey, something I took up recently and is great fun but nothing write worthy has happened there.
I walk quite a bit with both family and friends but unless I go somewhere new and interesting and bring the camera (I often forget) it doesn't make for an interesting post. I also meet friends for coffee (or in my case tea) or sometimes in the evening for a drink with more substance, maybe even some dancing (if I'm lucky).
So back to the meme, from my trawl through my old posts I've decided that the following posts show my personality best. I love laughing, spending time with my family, chilling out and having fun, you can read about one such day here. With the children growing older and Joules working full time and studying part-time these days have become less frequent but all the more special and I look forward to our next outing.
Moving to Ireland over 12 years ago was probably the hardest thing I have ever done. Although I am not shy I find it impossible to walk up to people, introduce myself and start conversing in a witty manner. Although the Irish are perceived to be a friendly race it is not as simple as that. The Irish are indeed very social and friendly when they know you but it can be hard to get to know them because they are busy being friendly and social with their friends. Another Irish trait is their laid back attitude to life. This is a trait I have wholeheartedly embraced much to the chagrin of my mother but there are some things I hold dear and one of those is a difference between right and wrong and acting upon it. If someone is being treated with disrespect(myself included) or if I see a wrong I am very forthright in giving an opinion on their behaviour. I have been told that Irish bureaucracy has to be treated with care if you want a result but have found that my English values of right and wrong and persistence have got me the results others are still waiting for.
As I mentioned earlier, a lot of my posts revolve around my children and my family. One of the reason I started this blog was to keep my family and friends in touch with my life, not just the big stuff like birthdays and holidays but the trivial, day to day stuff. I know Mum, Dad and Sam enjoy reading about family life and seeing the photographs of the children as they grow up; also that they will forgive my bad writing and grammatical errors. The main reason that I moved to Ireland was because Joules could earn enough money here for me not to have to go out to work therefore allowing me time to raise our children as we wanted. This post shows how hectic family life can be but I wouldn't swap it for the world.

1-20
I've read a few of these recently and decided to pinch the idea. Not as easy as I though but hey, I like a challenge:
1) The number of toilets I have.
2) The number of teeth Ben has lost, (number three is wobbly).
3) The number of toilets I would like to have (one of which would be included in the en suite I would also like to have).
4) The number of cousins my children have.
5) The number of times I had holes put in my ears, (now I sport one earring in each ear).
6) The size of my feet.
7) The number of stitches I had in my knee after falling off a wall, (age 6).
8) The number of O’levels I got.
9) The age I was when I learnt that gay no longer meant happy.
10) The age I was when I flew for the first time, (in a helicopter to the
11) The age I met Sarah, (my oldest friend) and lent her some socks.
12) And a half, the number of years I have lived in
13) The age I started and stopped reading Mills and Boon books.

20) The age I was when I mourned the passing of my teenage years. How was I to know that being in my twenties would be no different, it seemed to be so old at the time. As for now, according to Sally I’m only 17 (SAY).
