Many of you who follow my blog will be aware that Mollie is currently working on a project about Luxembourg. The information from the Embassy arrived within a week and Yvonne has been so helpful with loads of information and kindly answering a few questions about life in Luxembourg. Last week we decided to try out a Luxembourgian dish, ham in hay. It really is what it says it is, ham cooked on a bed of hay. Our vedict: unfortunately the ham was a bit fatty and we found it too salty but I did like the earthy, straw like taste it got from being steamed in the hay.

Wow am so impressed that you went to so much trouble! Don't think I've ever had ham in the hay...glad you got that information from the embassy in time.
In Hay?! Never heard of that before. We cook desserts wrapped with Banana leaves, turn out good. Sorry it didn't turn out well, but still can use Ham in Sandwiches!:)
looks good, beccy. not too fatty for enidd, she fears...
Looks good Beccy, you should google Ray Mears!
I bet no one else will have tackled the project by trying out a traditional dish. It's quite fascinating to see ham being cooked in that way!
I'm with Enidd, no such thing as too much pork fat! ;-) Great idea Beccy - must have been fun for Mollie too! All the things I have to look forward to! ;-)
Ham in Hay...? I would be worried some animal had rolled in the hay, but that is coming from someone that picks up dirty money in parking lots for fun. :)
It looks like she had fun with the project!
How fun to try it, even if it didn't turn out great! :)
And hope your bum is feeling better!
Wow - how interesting. I've never heard of something like that before. Too bad it was salty.
Never heard of cooking anything in hay. Wow, that's interesting. Too bad it wasn't to your liking.
Nice to see you blog it since you told me it would make a really, boring blog piece when I asked if Molly would guest blog it for me.
It's pretty cool that she's getting so involved in her school work she wants to make something like that at home.
Hey (get it, ha!) at least you tried!
Lisa
Interesting. Did you eat the hay too, as a side veggie or something? One way to get your fiber.
I love ham. I've never heard of it cooked that way, but it looks good!
In REAL hay? At first I thought you meant pretend hay like hash brown or chips or something. Cooked in real hay. Facinating.
Gosh Beccy that is really adventurous. I wouldn't know where to even go to buy hay.
You guys are so brave. It sounds interesing. Looks like Mollie's having fun. :)
Wow. Never would have thunk it. I'll never look at a haybale the same way!
There are some very nice smelling "hay" crops around here. I suppose it isn't much different than an herb flavoring.
sounds interesting! Y'all are really getting into this project!
That is really cool. I think that would be a very interesting dish. It wasn't the ham's fault it was too salty. I don't eat ham, but I could try it with smoked turkey.
I never would have thought of cooking ham in hay. Sounds interesting though.
It looks really good!I love your pics!
