Conversation overheard in the swimming pool changing room in very Bristolian accents.
Her "Di' I tell ya I go' the list for school?"
Him "Nah"
Her "It ha' daps on them, I din't know what daps were"
Him "I do they're...."
I wanted to butt in at this point and tell her as well but I didn't. So who, besides my family, know what daps are? They are an everyday item and I taught Dillon the word but it didn't stick as no one in Ireland knew them by that name. There may even be a small prize if anyone can guess the answer.

OOH - I get to make the first guess...Daps? Glue dots? no clue, really.
claps? i guess paper clips.
or some kind of fastener.
(do i get flapjacks?)
I've got no idea, but while we're asking questions: do you say runners, sneakers, joggers, tennies or tennis shoes?
i know and other people know even though they don't know it maybe?
Was WT on to it? Is it shoes or sneakers?
tissues, kleenexes, things to blow your nose on?
Dear beccy. it is togs/swimmers/bathers/cossies? That's four Aussie states' worth of names for you.
Also, willowtree - in queensland, we called the sandshoes!
I'll take a guess even though probably wrong. Daps are crayons or markers?
Something that makes you look dapper.
Kinda sounds like shoes, but I'm only saying that after I read the previous comments. I'm so honest! ;)
I'm probably way off but daps makes me think of diapers. And our school supply list has diaper wipes on it - for the classroom - so that's my guess. Diaper wipes. I'm sure I'm terribly wrong though.
the urge to use google is almost overpowering.... must resist...
I'll have to think about it a bit and come back
I know the answer to this, as people in the FOD use the same term for these. In Northern Ireland though they called them skuddies.......... very confusing.....
Actually it was gutties...... Brain not functioning tonight! Same thing as daps anyway...
well, hell, DAPS? i thought it said CLAPS.
so i'm insane and my answer is wrong.
send flapjacks anyway. clearly, i need them.
LMM - Damn! I knew there was another name for them, but I couldn't think of it. And here's the irony, when I was growing up in NSW we called them sandshoes too. D'oh!
plimsolls. I gave them enough time and no one said that.
Plus ask them what baps are next time.
Runners/Trainers!
I'm dying to know here Beccy - tell me tell me tell me.
Daps - jock strap?
pants? a specific type of pants
I love Karmyn's comments, because I have no idea and she's making me laugh. :)
Agh, I'm still learning the Devon lingo. I'm waiting with baited breath to know the answer!
sam gave the answer-- but that doesn't help... what's a plimsole?
