White Bears Birthday

White bear joined Ben, Mollie and Dillon for a night in the tent (2005).

White bear is a special member of our household, he joined us a month after Ben was born and has spent most nights since cuddled up to Ben. Occasionally another animal will finds it's way into Ben's affections, the dog from New york or the cow, cat or bear from the Bear Factory but Ben's number one love is white bear. White bear has even accompanied us on trips to Portugal, Florida and the UK.

White bears 4th birthday party.

Two years ago Ben (age 4) announced that the following day was white bears birthday, we all thought this was very cute so we made white bears cards, wrapped him a present (a packet of malteasers) and baked him a chocolate cake. Ben had such craic having white bear open his present and blow out the candles on the cake that a few days later he announced that it was white bears birthday again! He was quickly told that white bear only has a birthday once a year and that put an end to daily birthdays.

It's been over three years since white bear had a birthday so Ben thought it was time for another. He announced this during the fun of getting the Wii and no one remembered. When I went to bed on Thursday Ben had left a note by my door telling me that tomorrow was white bears birthday. This was in fact an invitation but contained no invite and I forgot about it. Friday was full of Wii based fun until it all got a bit much for Ben, he asked us where white bears presents were and me where his cake was and when we all shrugged our shoulders he burst into tears and wailed 'does no one love white bear?. I asked him what he'd given white bear expecting the reply to be nothing but Ben had given him a toy car. Then Ben said 'but you got an invitation' , that's when I twigged the note was an invitation so I said 'great, where's the party? I can come' to which I was told I was in charge of providing the party. As it was bed time there was no chance of an impromptu party and Ben was sent to bed.

Mollie, who has to rank up there as one of the sweetest sisters, found some toys and wrapped them for white bear and decorated the sponge cake I baked as a cat (as requested by white bear) and Ben is the happiest boy today.

This is such a cute idea! I think when Little Man's older, we'll have to start throwing a birthday party for his beloved frog.

I missed this post but I must say Ben is a very clever little boy, not to mention cute also. I've got a little bear that sits on my bed - I think I might use Ben's idea.
