Jam for Toast

Reading Barbara's post last week when she made cranberry and blueberry jam was just the inspiration I needed. I'd seen fresh cranberries and knowing how much Dillon loved cranberry sauce I had wondered what to make with them. Yesterday while shopping in town I ran through Marks and Spencer's food hall when the sight of the beautiful, red cranberries stopped me in my tracks and they were half price. I couldn't remember how much I needed for the recipe so bought four packs (I could remember that Barbara said the recipe only made 2-3 jars). I also purchased three large packs of huge, plump blueberries.

This jam is very easy to make, be warned you do need a large pan, mine is large and the mixture bubbled up to the top. Also the recipe said to boil the mixture until set, I wasn't sure how set it should be but I would describe it more as thick and gloopy than set. The jam tasted delicious on my toasted homemade wholemeal bread this morning.

Tastes delicious Mum, cranberries are the overriding taste, really unusual.

It is Sally, and very unusual. It's very easy to make, you only get two jars but I would recomment giving it a go.

I'm glad you were pleased with the jam Beccy. It looks perfect. I use a thermometer which is marked with the setting. Just to be sure I also do the cold saucer test. I just assume everyone knows how to test if jam is set so didn't bother including the directions.

The only jam I've made Babara is with a jam sugar and if I recall correctly(it's been a few years) it was time based. Will ask Mun what the cold saucer test is, I don't have a thermometer either.

My god, Beccy - that looks delicious! I'm sorely tempted to 'up my game' and start making more complicated goodies. Jam's always struck me as being rather hard to make. My mother begs to differ but she's been making the stuff for years. Well done!

Nigel I believe you recieved a jar of this from Barbara in you hamper. I got the recipe from her and it's very easy to make!

I think you should stick with the more unusual food, I love reading about stuff I've never heard of or would never dream of eating!
