The tree fell into our garden four days ago and was still there today so I went in search of the offending house. Let me explain, the house is behind our house and five roads away and could be one of a few. Luckily I guessed right first time but only the cleaner was home. I explained the situation and left my details with her. This afternoon a charming young man came around and apologised profusely. Apparently they hadn't noticed the tree had fallen as it was behind some bushes, that I understand, what I don't understand is how they failed to notice the biggest tree in their garden was missing although he does like in a big house with lots of land, I can't understand how that feels as I don't! Tomorrow the charming man is returning with a chainsaw to chop up the tree and will replace my washing line.

Good you got it all sorted. All he has to do now it get the correct replacement washing line.
At least he was charming about it.....
I'm glad the trampoline was ok. That would have been more expensive to replace than the washing line!
I can't understand how he didn't notice either1

Sounds like a charming neighbour. Lucky you. One of our neighbours is particularly uncharming...and they only rent which makes their rudeness all the more annoying.
I only hope the current storm clears up by tomorrow morning.
our storm is set to start tomorrow.
we have been having spotless weather - all blue skies and sunshine - for 2 weeks at least
Sam you need to batten down the hatches if you get anything like we 've had here did you hear about the tornado in London
Great news! It's getting cleaned up at last!:)
Aftermath of storm update.
I came home today to find my garden back to its usual mess with no tree and a new washing line. Thank you charming neighbour.
