Beads Galore

Last Friday was the last day of the mid-term break for the children. Ben wanted to go rollerblading along the promenade in Bray and Mollie wanted to look in a bead shop I had told her about, luckily also in Bray. We parked up at the waterfront and Ben and Dillon went off for a rollerblade while Mollie and I walked up to B.D.I. Jewelry.

This is a lovely bead shop I'd discovered a few weeks earlier, it reminded me of my childhood when I used to go to a bead shop in Bristol to buy beads and make earrings and necklaces. There is a huge range of beads from very small, to large and exotic. There is a range aimed at young children plus some aimed at the serious jewelry maker, plus many more in between, there is also a good range of jewelry making books. The price range also varies allowing girls who only have a few euro pocket money plenty of choice. So Mollie collected her pots, decided on a colour theme and walked around and around the shop carefully choosing her beads. When she was finished choosing her beads we asked the assistant for advice on how to make the necklace and bracelet. She advised us to buy the complete necklace kit which came with all the necessary items and instructions; for the bracelet she sold us some elastic like plastic and gave us detailed instructions on how to tie up the bracelet when finished. If anything went wrong she told us to come straight back and she would help us.

Of course Mollie had to get started as soon as she got home. As she was going away that evening with the cubs she only had time to make the earrings and she spent time trying out different designs before she settled on one. On Sunday Mollie had plenty of time so decided to make her necklace. Again she took her time selecting her beads and deciding on the design and once she was happy she began threading her beads. I helped her with attaching the wire to the clasp and then the necklace was finished.

I think she did a great job and am looking forward to seeing how the bracelet turns out, I'm even tempted to visit the shop and try to make some jewelry myself.

Tell Mollie I love her necklace it's very pretty. That sounds like a good shop with helpful assistants. I can see you will be regular visitors.

When I was looking for a link I found a bulletin board with lots of info, apparently a father and daughter own it, I was talking to the daughter, and they now run jewelry courses.

Love the necklace. I did some beading when I was going through chemo and needed a distraction, mostly wine charms and napkin rings with beads sent to me by blogging friends. Here's a link
