Baking, baking and more baking....

Today was spent baking for the cake sale. It was a miserable, rainy day so I was quite happy to be ensconced in my kitchen surrounded by recipe books and ingredients. First I made two All Bran loaves, the ingredients had been left soaking overnight. If I remember correctly this recipe came from the girl guide recipe book Mum mentioned on her blog, I just have it written on a scrap of paper. These came out of the oven looking perfect, I was very tempted to sample one but was very good and left well alone.

Next I decided to make four chocolate cakes, these I make regularly as they are a firm favourite with the family. I quadrupled the ingredients but seemed to have too much mixture. Never mind I thought, I'll just pile it in and make larger cakes, that way they can charge more and make more money for Barnados. Not so simple, they took twice as long to bake and the outside was done a bit too well. All turned out ok and they looked delicious when covered with chocolate.

Finally I made a batch of fairy cakes which I decorated with lemon icing, silver balls and sprinkles.

The afternoon was spent packaging all the cakes and the cookies I had made earlier in the week. I was very pleased with the end result.

You have been busy and I know everyone will flock to buy your baking. You are correct about the origin of the Bran loaf (Tea bread) recipe. Always a winner.
