Fun Monday #31

Lisa is the hostess of this weeks Fun Monday and has asked us...

I’d like to know more about you, what makes you tick. I’d like to know how you started blogging. Did you keep a diary under lock and key safely hidden as a child? Do you still? Do you share the same things on your blog that you would have, or do, in your diary? Why did you start blogging and why do you continue? May as well throw in any roadblocks you have run into while blogging. If you still have your old diaries we’d love to see them.

This is fairly easy for me:

I started blogging shortly after my mum and daughter started their blogs. My sister had been blogging for a long time and my son about a year and even my youngest son wanted to get in on the act! I decided to start blogging as a way of keeping my family and friends up to date with our lives as we all live in different countries. I never once dreamed I'd make new friends, learn about life in different cultures and be sending and receiving prizes and parcels.

As a teenager I did try and keep a diary. Every year Father Christmas would leave a diary in my stocking and every January I would resolve to write it every day for a year...I usually lasted until March. I used to keep it under my pillow or mattress and it was fairly harmless and probably full of the boys I fancied and tennis match results.

My blog is not really like a personal diary. I try to keep it as a record of our lives maybe including recipes I like, crafts I've made, things we do and places we visit. Sometimes I'll blog about a situation I've been in and how I feel but nothing deep and heavy. I guess this reflects my personality as I tend to keep my emotional feelings internal trusting only a few close friends and family. I really admire those of you how lay it on the line but that isn't my way, I guess my personality is different, I'm definitely a glass half full person always seeking the best out of every situation.

I'm the same, I don't like to give a lot of personal stuff away in my blog. I do love reading the confessional ones though!

love the idea that your family all have blogs and it is a great way to keep up to date with them all.
i am someone who usualy keeps things to myslef but am finding it easier to blog about problems/feelings than i would to talk about them.

That is so neat to have a family of bloggers...a great way to keep in touch and learn a bit more of the 'inner person' who's blogging!!

A wonderful Monday post.

There are certain things I wouldn't blog about. That, I can totally understand.

I tend to waffle between glass-half-full and glass-half-empty. Depends on my outlook on the day, I guess.

I just posted on your Mum's blog about how I love how you all blog and keep in touch this way. Lovely!

I love the last sentence! I see life as half full too! What's the use whining everyday for little things, when you can fix it and be happy while doing it, right?:)

i love the family of bloggers idea. i have two blogs but the first one i started for my whole family to use. they embraced it for about three months, blogged all the time, posted pictures of their kids and lives, and then they all kind of fell away. lost interest, i guess. i try to keep it going for them...

seems to me a great way to stay in touch.

and i'm with you, i don't put deeply personal stuff on the blog. just prefer not to. that's why i write about dogs, you know.

Everyone has their reasons. I'm surprised by the variety!

Cool that your whole family's into it, and a great way to keep in touch!

I kept a diary once, but I lost it....

when i started blogging, i found out that my teenage daughter had created a blog at school (but wasn't using it much). now all the family members have their own blogs - although i'm definitely the most addicted to it!

i also maintain a private blog that we just give out to extended family members. it's much easier than writing letters and more fun than email.

Ok, Anne Frank's comment has me rolling on the floor!

Did you catch the mention in my post about Jamie Oliver and Kirsty Allsop ? That was just for you, Beccy. It alway makes me laugh when you use a different name because I get all excited about a new commenter. Too funny!

I love how your family kind of started you blogging. I'm the only blogger in my family and I keep trying to get my kids started. My husband had one ofr about 2 months then ran out of things to say. :) I, on the other hand, am extremely loquacious. :0)

I really enjoy the fact that you and you mom both keep blogs! It's a great way to keep in touch.

funny how many bloggers weren't real diary keepers. enidd's with you on not giving too much away - you can only do that if you're anonymous, she thinks.

I have written some blogs that, afterwards, I freaked out and wanted to delete because I thought they were too personal - but after receiving such encouraging comments the whole process became very cathartic and made me feel tons better.

BUT - I don't like to do that too often.

(Oh - it is hard to read the purple font...I think my eyes are going bad)

Love the family of bloggers thing.

And, as you know, I am one to open up and get deep. That's my way in life, too. I'm pretty open. Although, I don't reveal e-v-e-r-y-thing. :)

Ecouter, sabotaging d'arrêt mon blog, ou je viendrai à votre maison un claquement votre fond

Sometimes I get on a roll and then have to let the post sit in the drafts folder until I can read it over and delete the more volatile stuff. I love that you are a "glass half full" person. That is a wonderful thing.

I enjoy reading your blog, and I find it interesting to visit the blogs of your family. Even though you are across the ocean, I feel that you are the friendly family next door.

I am sure my family will follow into the group of family bloggers that you belong to.

I try to put as much detail about my life into my blog, but due to a combination of my comments about work, and the fact that I must keep my current job, I cannot go into too much detail. Someday, I hope this will all change.

Guess I'm the opposite of you - I tend to write and blabber about how feel. Not too good!

Unknown said...

I think I am a huge blabber mouth. I guess I don't write about super personal things, but I do lay more out there than some. Oh well. But as long as I have known you in the blogging world, you have been, like you said, a positive person, who gives great advice. So I passed along an award to you, come to my page to see it!

I'm like you - sometimes I'm more private. Than other times...
I lay it all out. Like my colonoscopy and my fruit sticker.
What I didn't tell everyone was that I had a polp. Just got the GOOD NEWS that it was benign, and I'm not going to have to do that again for 5 years.

I don't care what you call your blog... I enjoy reading it just as it is.

That's so neat that all of your family has blogs, I've been trying to get mine to start one, but no luck.
And who would of thought, a blogger from the place I want to visit soo bad, I think I might have to come by more often!

That's great Becky that your family keeps up with each other through blogs. I popped over to read your sister's and started getting hungry!

Most of my posts have been half full, lately I've been trying to keep my spirits up. Thanks for the supportive comments.

I really enjoy reading your blog, your travels, your recipes, your jewelry and all the fun with your family.

Have a great week!

I think in some ways the anonymity that blogging can provide may make it easier for some people to divulge secrets. Some times it may be easier to sit down and type up how you feel rather than for the words to get all jumbled when you try to talk.

I am so glad I started blogging. The different people that I've gotten to know are all so different. I never thought I would get to "know" anyone from a foreign country either!

The family that blogs together, stays together...not to mention how much fun they have.

Kaytabug said...

I lay it out there but I do reserve a few things...I too like to see my glass half full...I think I have said that before...

Drama Queen said...

I started my blog for the same reason. . .basically to get it all out there. Makes you feel better doesn't it?
