Fun Monday #30

Theotherbear is hosting this weeks challenge and had the brilliant idea of asking us to post...

...a little white lie that you may, or may not, have gotten away with. Perhaps it's something more sinister than a little white lie - maybe even a deep dark secret that you've kept buried for years! All the better! Now's your chance to get it off your chest and confess: "Yes, I did eat that last slice of cheese cake", "No, I wasn't washing my hair that Saturday", "Those pants do make you look fat"!

Well that was easy I thought (unlike my mother who tells me she never told a white lie)! So where do I start?

'No dad I did not cycle through the brambly lane', uttered when dad found 13 punctures in my bicycle tyres aged 14.

'No mum, we didn't watch daytime tv', promised when we were children and she had to work during the holidays. In those days there was only childrens programmes on for an hour or two so it wasn't like we were glued to the screen all day, we also completed our chores and played outside.

Then there was Mrs T's skirt. Mrs T lived opposite us, had huge dyed hair (I later found out she wore wigs), had a bar in her lounge and was a barmaid. My mum would have thought her a bit tarty. One year we were collecting jumble for the annual tennis club jumble sale and I found a skin tight, knee length black skirt which I pronounced suitable for school. Mum said no way was I wearing such a tarty skirt to school and promptly popped it back in the black sack. What could I do? The skirt was calling to me! Yes I sneaked it out and wore it every day to school until I could squeeze into it no more. If you're wondering I used to wear this horribly grey, pleated skirt that had belonged to my sister over it and would slip it off in the brambly lane!

Then there was the case of the pink shoes. I had maroon/brown shoes for school (the uniform was black or grey clothes and black, blue, brown shoes). I hated these sensible hush puppies so started wearing my baby pink moccasins. I got away with it for two weeks then my year head caught me and asked me why my mother let me wear them to school, I mumbled that my mother thought they were ok. That day as I left school I was handed a note to give my mother about my pink shoes. I told mum the year head was colour blind and thought my maroon shoes were pink but that another teacher had said I could keep wearing the maroon shoes, phew, got away with that!

Finally, mum when I told you 'I have one beer then drink coke all night' I omitted to mention that there was some rum in the coke! (I was over 18 at the time).

Beccy your little lies have me smiling. Reading these posts reminds me of other tales that I used to spin. I love your fanciful story about the pink shoes.

Well... pink, maroon - all very similar tones, right?
And to my mum: Yeah, just one beer then coke was it for me too, honest.

Oh dear see how gullible I was- I really thought I could trust you - how wrong I was- sometimes a mother chooses to ignore certain things!! I have to confess I only vaguely remember the 'shoes' and I did NOT know about the skirt you were lucky that I left for work before you left for school or you wouldn't have got away with it- what a bad mum I was!

Oh here's one....I now remember! Mom: "Did you smoke a cigarette?"...Me: "No"!

In all actuality, I smoked MORE than one.

Great stuff for the little white lies. I'm enjoying this week's "getting to know y'all better"

I can just imagine you slipping behind a bush to take off the gray skirt, and toss it in a book bag, ha!

Oh, those lies of omission.
Does Chrisb realize she is color-blind? Now, I'll bet she wondering what else she was or wasn't back then.

I'm so honest, that I couldn't join in this week!

Well, that's not quite true.....

Beccy, hope you will come back to my place - Uncaringbear has graced us with his presence and posted his take on the topic too.

ha ha!

I used to take my high heeled shoes to school and change into them sometimes too. Anything better than burgundy hush puppys or Clarke's. Although these days I wear Clarke's again. They make cool ones now.

GREAT cover up on the shoes! What a bright (and sneaky) little girl you must have been - I could have used some of your tactics back in the day.

You do have a wonderful mum!

Beccy, those were really fun to read, especially the skirt one. I did something similar with a top my mom thought was a little to tight and low. I thught it was cute.

LOL! And the only had one beer one, classic. :)

Sam, I even borrowed those gold high heels of yours once, only my feet were bigger than yours so I ended up with very blistered feet.

Aw, Chris, you're not a bad Mum. You can't help it if your daughter is a lying little fashion wreck!

Just kidding, Beccy, but man, you were the lying Queen!

(Do you notice that I am not volunteering to fess up to all my lies. My mum reads my blog too).

pink shoes - aren't you posh!

Sneaking "tarty" clothes was something I never did - but plenty of my friends did.

(once, I put blush on my cheeks and told my mom's friend that I had fallen down and hit a cheek and since it was bright red I had to make the other one the same....I had forgotten about that until right now - oops, I am a liar)

I imagine it's hard to get away with stuff when Mom is reading. :-)

And my sister has the same handwriting as my Mom.

Those are such cute little lies! What a good child you must have been.

I loved your post! Loved your wording too. :) The little lies we told as children are safer than any we might tell as adults. :)

The skirt cracks me up, it's like something you'd see in a movie, never thought anyone actually did it...until now!

And your little alcohol lie reminds me of the time I filled the vodka bottle with water to the almost invisible line that my parents had drawn, to monitor how much was left. They asked me why it tasted like water, I told them it must have expired (I was never good at telling lies...)

Hehe, the pink shoes story was sneaky... and I'm guilty of those Not the Total Truth lies like with the rum and coke.

wow... you needed 3 swats with a grape vine, too.
hee hee.

I wish I remembered all the excuses I got from my daughters for various misdemeanors.

What a memory you have!! I cannot remember many of the lies I told my poor parents!!

In response to your comment on my own lie, I do wonder sometimes if my "illness" is simply stress internalized....I am practicing my "No" as I type...

BTW Kaytabug and I are tagging you for the 10 things I love/like about me, aka "Stuart Smalley meme"!! Tell the bloggy world why you are so awesome!

The maroon shoes had me laughing. I can't believe you got away with that one!

Anonymous said...

Beccy, are there any pictures of the tarty black skirt? ;-)

Anonymous said...

to funny you really decided to let it all out in one shoot? your brave.

Anonymous said...

See? Don't you feel better letting all those cats out of the bag?

Actually, these are sweet, fun, childish admissions (even if you were "of age" in some of the instances).

Probably the most truthful lies I've heard this week. Well, yours and Emma's! Guess I need to keep reading for more of the same!

I *love* the bit about the skirt. Priceless! Is this what I have to look forward too? ;)

This made me smile so big, lol! I bet your mum's jaw dropped open when she first read all these. LMAO!
