Memories from France: Canoeing

Posted by Picasa

Back to bore you with a post about France. On two separate occasions we hired canoes for a trip on the Dordoyne. The Dordoyne is quite a fast running river and the current will take you if you don't want to paddle. We saw a group on people on a Dordoyne Safari with their canoes loaded with camping equipment (there are plenty of campsites dotted along the river). We canoed past chateaux and villages built into the rock faces, under stone bridges, through weeds and under trees (I won't mention how Mollie and I were nearly decapitated as it may worry mum). There was a lovely breeze on the river to keep us cool and plenty of cafes and restaurants to stop at for refreshments. If you ever find yourself in this area I really recommend it as a fun way to pass a few hours.

Beccy these are lovely photos, of course, I'm very glad you were not decapitated, but now I want to know the story! You actually got some photos of Dillon and doesn't he look like you and Sam when you were younger!!! Will you bring me some of the photos on a disc.

You have the greatest collages. What program do you use to create them?
I've never been to France, so how could I be bored.
The Flapjack post is up and coming. I'll let you know when it is scheduled to appear. Unfortunately, the flapjacks disappeared many moons ago.

What great pictures, I love to do anything outside, and that would be just the ticket!
Someday if I ever get to go there, I will be sure to go.

I love canoeing too. I am wondering what the holes are in the cliffs on the side of the river. I am glad you did not mention the decapitation thing as that kind of thing worries any grandmum.

France is so beautiful and green! Your pictures are gorgeous! Not just your Mum would be scared to hear about the near decapitation!

That looks like so much fun! I'm jealous. We sold our canoe before moving to Ireland because we didn't think we'd get much use out of it. Idiots! ;-)

Jealousy becomes me!

My favorite place on our France trip was Beynack - we took a river ride, not adventurous enough to paddle ourselves though.

It was much warmer when we did the kayak thing down in Mexico with the sea lions.

If it weren't for my intense fear of flying, you would have convinced me that I need to vist that particular area of France! I have to say, I am slightly jealous. It sounds like such a wonderful experience. And I love your collage, I gotta figure out how to do that!

Great pictures and I see you were even able to snap a few of Dillon as well!
I went rafting on a very fast river here when I was in high school it was so much fun. Haven't been since but I would love to.

Thanks le bellina mammina.

It was great fun hellojed particularly as the current swept us down stream.

Mum, not sure we have a blank disc will look and see.

Swampy I use Picasa 2, click on the coloured square beneath for information. It's free to download.

Laurie yes to the croissants and cheese no to the red wine (gives me a headache) unless the white wine runs out! Big no to the escargot...can't go there I'm afraid.

It was great fun Lisa.

Mjd the holes were caves and there were lots in the rockfaces in this area. A lot of houses were built into the rockfaces as well and prehistoric man lived in some of the caves.

Wendy, maybe I'll tell the story although it's not as exciting as it sounds.

You're welcome Shauna.

Asha, it got hot and sweaty too.

Oh Deborah how could you? Maybe you should buy a new one.

Hey John you should give it a try!!!

Emma, I guess I'll try and post it tomorrow.

Thanks Steffi, it was fun.

catwoman I love laughing through your posts!

Joe we were staying near Beynac and also went on the boat tour. That's where we spied the canoes and decided it looked much more fun!

Thanks Beckie.

Heather, try and get over your fear because there's so much to see on the other side of the pond! Download Picasa 2 for free to make a similar collage.

Thanks Amy.

It was Sam.

Terri, Dillon had no choice as he had nowhere to hide!

Not boring at all. I love the pictures. It looks like such a nice time. We love canoeing, too.

Debbie do you see the evidence of your inspiration? I'd love to do canoeing here although I'm not sure there's a river quite like the Dordoyne here. We were driven to a start point then canoed back to the hire place so we never had to go upstream!

My boys would love that. I would rather hike along the shore. ;)

I'm learning much about France... I just never thought about people canoing and camping along the same river that also hosted cafe's.

Awesome.

It was so much fun Kila.

Pamela, you learn something new every day!
