I'm back and it's Fun Monday time, Swampy is this weeks host and she has asked us to reveal our shelves in all their unkeptness. This was easy for me as I only finished unpacking yesterday and although I left the house reasonably clean and tidy the shelves are their usual cluttered selves.
These shelves are in our sitting room and house some books and photos. A lot of these books are from my student days when I studied literature and include DH Lawrence, Milan Kundera, Angela Carter, Evelyn Waugh and Iris Murdoch. I have to admit to not having read these books in years but am loathe to get rid of them. The top shelf also includes some clay objects the children have made for me over the years. The bottom two shelves hold mostly photographs including one of my granny with my mum when she was a baby.
This bookshelf is also in the sitting room and contains puzzles, games, videos, DVDs, PlayStation2, wii and psp games as well as a few books and photos. We could definitely do with more shelving for all the games and DVDs.
This bookshelf is on top of a chest of drawers in our bedroom which looks really stupid but we have no where else to put it in our shoebox called home. All our books (besides the huge pile on our bedside tables and the bedroom floor) are stored here, the gaps are from where Dillon has been recently reading a lot of our books and not replacing them.
More books are building up in the small gap between the bookshelf and a wardrobe.
These are some beautiful hardback books that I started collecting about 20 years ago.
In the corner of my kitchen are my cookery books and many printed recipes waiting to be put into folders.
Finally Swampy asked us to show our garages without cleaning up. I have no garage, our attic has been converted into a bedroom and we seriously lack storage space. Our tiny landing has become our storage space, all things that cannot be housed are squeezed in here or our bedroom. You see a mattress (useful for sleepovers), a box of my secretary stuff for the Parents Association (I'll be passing this on to the next secretary in October), the laundry basket, some toys waiting be passed on to the cousins, a bag of clothes hangers (???), sleeping bags (ready for a weekend camp) and a suitcase (now stored in a cupboard in the attic. I would love to have a door I could close on this mess but I don't and this is how you'll find me if you ever come a visit.

Oh ya....good thing I didn't think of sharing the attic today....wow, I'm not sure the peak of the roof would show!!!
Have a terrific fun Monday!!
Welcome back. Your "storage" room is tidier than any room in my house. I love all the books! What a paradise.
wow, you have beautiful colors in your house! i love the lime green walls, and the teal.
the picture above the one with the suitcases is the picture that most resonates with me. that's every shelf in our house.
it's SO nice to have you home.
Beccy - imaginary door, that's what I do.
Also, you are brave for posting about the books stuffed down between the shelf and the wardrobe. For all as bad as my mess was there was worse I did not show.
I just came from the Mamas, and so I was relieved to find some normality, but sadly that only lasted for the first three photos, then is just got weird again. You've sure got some books there kiddo.
I love your colors. Truly fabulous.
I'm glad I'm not the only person doing Fun Monday with bits of clutter on the front of their book shelves :-)
The green in your living room is fabulous!
it finally feels like a fun monday again having you back... and you have a lot of books!
I noticed you have lots of color green and aqua. Very pretty.
Hey... Your books look
like they copulate...
(We downsized our book shelves - so we don't have so many around as we used to)
Beccy hope I'll see it again in person before too long!!
You have a serious amount of books and shelves. I love the top of that shelf - I can't get mine to balance quite like that, but I aspire to it.
Have a fun Monday and a great week!
I thought the space in front of books on shelves was intended for clay sculptures and knickknacks!! YOu seem perfectly organized to me. (I did not show corenrsor closets for a good reason!
Ok you and I.. we will get along just fine!!! Love all your books;)
Wow, I love that green on your walls/shelves!!!! Your picture collection is sweet.
Love the huge amount of books, I have stacks of them too.
Thanks for popping in. I love the lime green shelves.
Finally, someone with as many books as me! Love the pictures.
I love the wall colors... I don't have the courage to go that bold... call me a chicken!! But I have always loved that look!
I love all your books, but most of all I LOVE all your bright greens!
Really a lot of books and crazy colores. The green is nice.
Welcome back!
Great books, you can NEVER have too many.
I have no storage either, I feel your pain.
Enjoyed your pics, especially of your pictures in frames. Your walls are colored beautifully, too!
Enjoyed seeing your "Fun Monday" today.
Happy Monday
That's how it looks in my kitchen with printed recipes waiting to get filed. I love all your books. So sad mine are in our shed, waiting for my husband to build a bookcase to showcase them on.
Love the aqua colors.
I was running late today, but my Fun Monday post is finally posted.
Your book shelves look incredibly similar to mine. I too have many books that I just simply can't part with.
enidd's wondering what the hard back books are, beccy. they have interesting covers...
Welcome back from your trip, and back to Fun Monday. You have lovely colors in your home; they seem so cheery.
What a wonderfully warm and inviting place! The colors are very bright - just the way I like them! Your cook book storage area looks a lot like mine. It seems like I have equally as many loose recipes as there are in the books. And those are the ones that are tried and true!
Wow, that's a lot of books! My son had that same lime green color in his bedroom, try sleeping in that!
That's a lot of books! I love the bright green :o)
I love all the green and colors. Don't worry about your mess area though really if I showed the whole garage I would be waiting for someone to call me in!
Great Stuff!
I LOVE the colors! And this reminds me how badly I need to get reading again.
Storage is overrated. The more you have, the more you use. Much better to have very little and to use everything that you can and remove teh rest!
I love how you built bookshelves out of BOOKS! lololol
Your clutter looks *good!*
Love the holiday pics too. Thanks for coming to Kildare today!
Have a great week.
Great colors in your house. I think a person can never have too many books. I don't let them go, no matter how long it's been since I've read them, LOL.
I love all of the books.
And I'm really enjoying your pictures from France. What a beautifully picturesque place.
