Do you believe?

Did I ever mention I was gullible. Gullible with a capital G. You tell me something and I'll believe it no matter how outrageous it was. When I met Joules and his gang of Irish friends at university they had great fun spinning the poor English girl (me) lines about anything and everything and I would say 'really', 'really', 'never', 'really'. Bearing in mind that this went on at the pub whilst copious amounts of alcohol was being drunk, they would nearly p**s themselves laughing while I'd tell them off for winding poor old me up. Then they'd say tell us what your sister did so I'd tell them again and again and again. At this point someone would end up on the floor, whether it was from laughing at me or due to the amount of pints being drunk I do not know.

When I was about 13 years old my sister (16 years) told me something ridiculous (I can't remember exactly what) and then laughed when I believed her. I retorted that she wasn't to wind me up because I was so gullible and that it wasn't fair. She replied that the word gullible was no longer a word and had been removed from the English Oxford dictionary. I was mortified because what word could I now use to explain my gullibleness now that gullible was no longer a word. Sam dined out on that for weeks!

Joules and Dillon have taken over the mantle from Sam, now that she resides the other side of the pond and they have many a laugh at the stupid things I fall for. It's a good job I'm not too sensitive or I'd have a complex by now!

You're in good company...or at least, in my company. :) Or, I'm in Your company.

Although, I had to laugh out loud when you believed that "gullible" was taken out of the dictionary. HA!

But Beccy, what made you post this? What did they do?
There must be a reason for this admission! Fess up!

I have to confess Lisa, nothing. I was reading something a bit suspect and was thinking how gullible I am and hey presto and idea for a post!

Thanks Sally, that makes me feel good.

I'm in good company Nikki!

Kila and my4kids is that why we are gullible? To give others a laugh.

Amy it seems to be a growing club.

Never read it John, does it have anything to do with being gullible?

I don't belive any of you.

'Course my Irish Granddaddy was king of the big whoppers, and I learned to spot 'em.

That is strange Beccy becaus I cannot remember you ever believing anything I said when I was trying to explain something to you. Perhaps you grew into it. Love

Beccy, I think people think we were made to give them good laughs. Of course it has made me one to do it to others also. Especially the kids. Only little kids are more gullible than me, but then they get me sometimes to.

I have to be careful with my kids - because they believe EVERYTHING I tell them...and sometimes I use it to my advantage.

I swear - I won't do it to you, okay?

enidd's gullible too, beccy, and she agrees with sally. normal people don't expect normal people to be fibbing too them. cruel sisters, though, that's another story...

Not sure I care for the picture of horrrible older sister you paint of me. And dad's got a point! Let me just put the record straight and remind tyour readers there are two sides to every story and Beccy wasn't the perfect sister either.

If it is any consolation I had a reputation for being extremely gullible at colleg too and I think I still am.

I put it down t being a glass half full kind of person who prefers to believe the best in people.

And I don't think I was cruel.

I am not sure I like Enidd anymore.
If Beccy was an angel I'd admit it. But I can assure you she absolutely was not. And being the youngest meant she got away far more with stuff than I did.

LOL Stephanie, my Irish Grandaddy is from Houston!

Dad, you know us females we can pick and choose!

my4kids I don't know how Joules keeps a straight face as he tells me stuff and I'm going 'really, never, really, are you sure'.

Karmyn am I seeing another side to your personality!

Enidd I can assure you I was as cruel or as nice as my sister.

Sam this wasn't meant as a post to slag you off I think it's funny that you managed to get me on that! I still remember where I was standing in your room when you said it. Funny how some irrelevant things stick in the mind.

As the youngest Sam I learnt what not to ask for as I learnt from your mistakes therefore I avoided some of the arguments. Thank you for being born first!

You are so sweet Frannie.

Pamela, I'm all ears!!!

There is no 'gullible' in the dictionary!!!! I am off to check!:))

Oh, guillible people like yourself are the best.

We need to start an association for gullible people where we won't allow the non-gullibles to join. That way we can live happily and never be mocked.

Oh, Beccy,
That is me too and MY sister (MIN) is also guilty of telling me whoppers and becoming quite embarrassed when I cited her as the source of such misinformation. She told me Austin Texas was bigger than Chicago, and I (believing it) told all her friends in Austin that she had said this and they thought she was a real idiot! ;-} She also told me words that do not exist that she claimed WERE in the dictionary! Do you think we are related?
By the way, the reason there is no "gullible" in the dictionary is because the real words for this phenomenon are "trusting" and "open-minded"!

Beccy said...

Sally I'm with Swampy there!

LOL Asha.

Gee thanks Mark (blush blush).

You gullible catwoman a sassy cat like you, never, I don't believe it!!!

TAFKAP I'm guessing Min is older than you right?

enidd said...

ooo errr, enidd was joking, sam. sorry! cruel sisters are just what you expect, surely? well, brothers are, enidd has no experience of female siblings herself.

AfKaP said...

No, Min is younger - isn't that pitiful!!?
