Fun Monday #5 Precious objects

Karmyn at Dreaming What Ifs is hosting today's Fun Monday and has asked us to post about things that are precious to us.

My immediate thought was my family, this photograph was taken last summer while we we visiting Mum.

As Sam lives in San Francisco we don't all get together very often, this photograph was taken on a family trip to Florida in 2003.

When I first moved to Ireland in 1994 I found it very hard to settle in. The turning point came after I had lived here for eight months and found a tennis club to join. I had looked up tennis courts in a directory and only found a list of contractors and had wondered whether tennis was played much in Ireland. At a mother and toddler group I was lucky enough to meet someone who played tennis and she suggested a local club for me to join. Playing tennis gave me something to do for myself and the chance to meet new people other than through Dillon.

Mum took this picture yesterday when I was playing a match, the match we were expecting to lose and we won!

These rings belonged to my Grannies mother-in-law and could possibly be older we aren't sure. I was thrilled when Mum gave me the ring with the ruby in to use as an engagement ring and the matching wedding band when I got married. I do not know their worth but to me they are priceless.

Dear beccy. That's really nice. My family hasn't been together since 2003. My brother and his g/f couldn't even come to my wedding :( I really like your treasured possessions.

Oh, I have goose bumps. So many of your thoughts/photos I relate to. Of course, the family. I play tennis, too and have not only my first racket I used in junior high school hanging on the wall downstairs, but my daughter's also. The ring gave me the shivers because my wedding band is gold and narrow and the engagement ring has a garnet, very much the same color as a ruby. The garnet is an artifact that my husband found on a shipwreck. Probably not worth much to anyone else, but priceless to me. I will wish you a wonderful week as I probably won't have the opportunity to visit much for awhile.

Gee, Beccy, I ADORE my family, but that never even crossed my mind for this post! I think it's lovely that was the first thought you had.

Isn't it a fantastic feeling to wear something that belonged to those in your family in previous generations? I mentioned clothes in my blog post today, but I also have some jewelry that belonged to my mother and grandmother. Forget its dollar value, it's the tie to the past that means something to me.

I know what you mean about it taking a while to feel at home in a new place...glad yours was such a healthy--physical AND mental--pursuit :).

Little Miss Moi, It's hard when family lives so far apart. If I'm lucky I see my sister once a year.

Thank you Steffi.

Not the most flattering photo Erik!

My family are difinitely my most precious Min.

Jenny they actually came from my mums granny and we don't know if they were new to her or handed down from someone else.

Thanks Bethany and Melissa.

Swampy, more than a few coincidences.

Robin my family was my first thought for this post.

and nice hands to display the ring on too. Priceless!

Family is a treasure--
I used to play raquet ball -- and it was fun and healthy

Your precious items are indeed precious as they are all related to people. Our loved ones are indeed our greatest treasures.

You old softie, just like me. Lovely!

Hmmm, you treasure your family, that's a novel concept to me;)

Loved the pictures. Some people seek out religion (going to church etc), to make friends, I've always found you can't go past a sporting club.

I laugh about the tennis racket - but then realize how important friendships are - so it truly is symbolic of that. Great post!!!

Beccy said...

Thanks Nikki, I love them both for the look and the history.

Of course Mum.

Thanks songbird.

Your too kind Pamela.

I quite agree mjd.

Young softie John, YOUNG!

My Gran suggested going to church but the tennis did it for me, fresh air, exercise and new friendships.

Absolutely Karmyn, that's what I was trying to convey, the racquet itself is unimportant, it can be easily replaced, it's what it represents to me.

Hi Beccy! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love this post. How sweet. My mom is a huge tennis person.. she actually records matches on tv so she can watch them over and over again.

Hi Frannie, thanks for dropping by, much as I love tennis I never record it. I don't think I'd have the time to watch it!
